My car part took a vacation courtesy of USPS and didn't take me with it

Just yesterday I got the part from American autowire. They already gave me a refund.

Now I have a transmission housing worth $400 I sent by priority mail that the destination is 167 miles away in Washington state like I am. I didn't think much of it when it went to Portland, I figured it was some kind of hub and would be routed back to Washington.

As of 5:57am today it arrived in Corona, CA.

Why? WTF is going on with USPS? Is USPS being run by Fedx? They have about the same track record here.
 
Normally, USPS has been good to excellent. However, I ordered some OTC medication from an online pharmacy in NY. on 5/28. On 6/1, it was in the Madison, WI distribution center 30 miles from me. The next day, it was in the Bismark, ND distribution center. The last update was on 6/6 stating it was "Moving Through Network, In Transit to Next Facility, Arriving Late".

It took me awhile to find the missing mail thing again. I have an account and I had to sign into the account and go from there. I'm not sure if you will have to do that or not.
