New To Qc Tool Post, Do I Need A New Compound?

What type of steel would you recommend? A2?
The 3/8" spacer on my lathe (Too small QCTP for lathe) is made from aluminum. Any steel should work, but I bet something on the softer side might be nice because it'll "bite" and grip both surfaces.

If you have access to a mill, I would recommend a small boss to fit the tee slot and prevent the spacer from rotating. not a necessity but a nice to have feature.

If you don't have a mill, a couple of discs the width of the slot screwed to the underside of the spacer will do the same job - they may need to be pretty thin so they don't foul the Tee nut!
