Ok, I give up. 7 start thread

Alloy , I'll see if I can find the larger book in the am . Pulling 13 to 14 hr nights for a few weeks .

They tell ME to try CNC, it'll be easy they said. Naw that's alright

Once you master it , you'll never want to touch a manual lathe again ! ( and it isn't hard to master ) :)

Thanks Jim. I'll try them tomorrow.

Ive not gotten the graphics to work on this machine. I'll just set it away from everything and air cut.

Yeah, CNC is EASY..............just load a part and push the button right? Like my signature says " That wasn't a crash, it was an premature rapid move at an unfavorable location. "

Again thank you everyone. I have a lot to do tomorrow morning.

Hey I run a Mazak so I just push a few buttons and then parts fly out. Not that fanuc Mumbo jumbo with gcodes everywhere.

That parts looks easy as pie to program on mazatrol. But one thing is you may need to relieve your threading tool due to the very high helix. Also I think that may actually be a sort of helical gear not necessarily a thread.

Also I forgot to mention I can draw the part in Cad for you if you need. May not be right at this moment but when I get around to it

Once you master it , you'll never want to touch a manual lathe again ! ( and it isn't hard to master ) :)

No it's not hard, just a few things take time to figure out. Things that take me an hour on on manual lathe or mill take just minutes on my CNC's. And a few things can't really be made on my manual machines without complex setups and that makes them not worth making.

mmcmdl:

Thanks again for your help. I understand the hours you are doing. If I'd not had a stroke that would be me also.

Every morning when I got up at 4 I would wish there was a way I didn't have to go to work. Well I have that now, but in my opinion the trade offs weren't worth it. Would go back to my old self in a heartbeat. But, I didn't have any choice in the matter.

Ianagos

Not sure if it's a helix, might be. The lead is constant and I do have back clearance on my tool. I don't see any rub marks on the cut from the bottom of the tool rubbing.

I can mail you a part to go off of to draw it up. Just let me know where to send it.

I had a few speedodrive gears that I threw out a couple months ago! Blue plastic ones from GM Turbo350!

Same gear, almost. The plastic ones I use are from a T5 with a 27 tooth spline in the ID. Those are easy to get. Its the ones made out of steel for muncie transmissions I need. Half the time I cant even get them.

And I still have to modify them to get them to fit. If I can make them I'll machine them the way I need them. I'd Ike to make 6, 7, 8, and nine tooth.

@JimDawson, wow, now that's what I call assistance!

OK, I think this will work. Be very careful :cautious: air cuts are your friend. I haven't had time to try this, cutting parts in my lathe right now.

Same as above except using G32. I know this would run on my machine, but will it actually make the part? :dunno:

Jim is waaaay better than AAA is  It's truly wonderful to have friend like him.

Ok tried both codes. Both make a 7 start thread, but the thread is too "fast" I guess you would say.

I tried going to F1.202 same thing.

What did you use for parameters to program it, and did you do it on CAM?

This is much closer than I got with mastercam by far.

Thanks!!!!!
