A tidbit for the masses. I was in need of a bushing. There in the scrap bin was a Christmas miracle. Something left over from a forgotten project with just the right OD. I look in the hole and there is a broken tap. URGH! In a hail Mary I stuck a piece of 1/4" rod in the hole and brought a 20 ton shop press to bear. The tap shattered and fell out. Start to finish, 30 seconds! Eureka!

There must be a Murphy's law here. If it was a super expensive part that you had a LOT of time into, NO WAY would that tap come out easily.
Exactly what I was thinking.

First time I eve tried this so I have no track record to fall back on. Once in a million shot? works every time? I don't know but I'll be trying this again at my next broken tap party!
