I use the buffer wheel on just about everything I want a mirror finish on. Works great.

I use a 3M Scotch-Brite Unitized Deburring wheel a LOT and it will leave a mirror finish. It looks like a stone, but has some give to it and is one of the best things I've added to the shop in years. I do a lot of TIG welding and when I want it perfect, I use this as a final step and get it to a mirror, then wipe with acetone. If you made a wooden form to hold your part and pointed the fingers in the direction of rotation I don't think you'd have any issues at all with removing material. They do a fantastic job of deburring parts, but you do have to lean into it a bit to remove all but the lightest burrs (which is a good thing). I can polish something and take a picture of it if you'd like to see typical results.

I just ordered this kit. It has a scotch-brute flap wheel and three different buffing wheels. Hopefully my Harbor Freight buffer will handle it.
