Regarding 4130CD Chrome Moly Steel

I've seen tubing described as DOM, Drawn Over Mandrel (as opposed to welded), but not CD. And the DOM tubing I've purchased looks more like hot-rolled rather than cold-rolled.
Neither have I but that's all I can think of for CD.

I used some Google-jitsu and found this. Cold Drawn seems to be the consensus.

Interesting, they say this:
"Note that the term cold rolled (CR) is not used industry wide and has been replaced by (CD)."

Cold Rolled is not used industry wide? That's what I've always mostly heard. I've heard of Cold Drawn Seamless which is why I assumed CD was for tubing but according to them that's not the case and CD is for bar stock too. I've never heard Cold Finished around here either.

So it's just one of those thing where they decided to change nomenclature? Kind of like how NPT changed to FIP & MIP or TIR to FIM. Why they trying to confuse us all the time! gaah.gif
