Rescuing an abandoned Diesel 12 valve in Europe

Davos sounds Greek to me... It probably means "bulletproof" after seeing how there's no rust anywhere.

Today i spent an entire day with the pressure washer, degreaser and soap. The drivers window broke when i unloaded the car, so i had it wedg but that failed as well. So i took the door panel off and removed the mehanizam, the track slider has broken into pieces. I've order sliders for both sides, but until then i installed a piece of wood to hold it up. I left the door panel off for future work, then come time to pressure wash the engine bay and floor pan. I used 2 full bottles of oven degreaser on the engine and on the floor also i filled a shopping bag with roots and grass. After i blow off any standing water i started the engine and continue taking the front bumper off, its very damaged also the front fog lamps are in bad shape. I strip the front bumper and i'll be looking for a replacement, this one has been repaired so many times and it had lots of filler in it. Also found me a interior blower motor to change the one in this car isn't working. And the charge light is on, i'm hoping it's just stuck brass from the 14 years of seating. Now the engine bay is clean, also the floor is clean, the front is taken apart, i'll do couple more tests and then i'll start ordering parts to fix everything.

That bumper cover doesn't look too bad in that pic. Use the right products and it can be repaired good as new. I use a two part urethane/epoxy compound made by 3m when repairing urethane bumpers. Works great, you can even splice parts together that were never meant to be together. Here's my 83 mustang getting an 89 Mustang GT lower valance:

Ultimately, I ended up swapping it out for a 1985 nose, but that was for my personal preference not because I couldn't make the hybrid nose work.

A serviceable used part is always a good choise, but lots of options out there to repair urethane body parts.

Oh. i've had to do it like that, but on the bumpy roads and having every drunk and student drive bump into it they crack, also here i don't have as good quality materials like 3M staff. With thin paint bumpers don't crack on small bumps, new bumper is 80$, i'm looking for a cheaper used but even at 80$ i might just buy one and spend my time working on something else. I might change the color, to light red like on your mustang.

Cool.. Gotta do what ya gotta do.....

Today i went parts shopping, I did order some parts and bought some. The parts store had the timing set on a shelf, roller and tensioner are SKF and the belt is Dyco, as the walter pump is part the timing set i also order and it arrived within the hours, in that time i took a hike up in the nearby mountains. By the time i got down into cell phone range the parts store called the water pump arrived so i pick it up on my way home. I'll be piling up the parts and then i'll start installing them, by the time all the parts are installed i should have a ready to drive car.

Today some of the part i ordered yesterday started to come in, the fuel filter is the wrong one, this one is too short so its going on a shelf. Also i spent some time messing with the cabin blower and charging the A/C. Cabin blower is now working, the A/C is working only when i rev up the engine, the alternator is not charging so i'm thinking is somehow associated with that. Its time to change the timing belt, that belt is more than 20 years old so i'm not risking running the engine any more.

Today more of the parts i ordered for this rescue arrived, i'm surprised how bad the parts inventory and pricing has gotten. Parts for the rear brakes, belts, filters are here so i can begin work. First i wanted to see how the undernight looks after pressure washing. It looks Ok, some surface rust on the edges where it was sitting in the ground. I'll clean that up later but now i prepared it for changing the timing belt and big service on the engine. Removed the passenger tire, inner fender, placed it on a jack stand. At this point i stopped, it was late and i have to work tomorrow.

It was a long day working on this project. Started by removing the old timing belt, marking all the pulleys lock the crank had to remove the starter. Change the tensioner, roller and water pump found the both upper engine mount are broken, but i had spares on a shelf so after some effort i replaced them, you can see my setup to press out the old one. Replace the timing belt, check my timing marks, tension it, put it together, while in there i took the alternator off its not charging at all, tomorrow i'll try changing the regulator to see if that fixes it.

Today i did a bit more work, taking the passenger side wing it has a big dent and its mount is bent. Took the headlight off and assembled couple of thing around the engine. Just as i got dirty i got the call my new front bumper arrived, so i fired up the little niva and went to pick it up. The new bumper is aftermarket but it supposed to be a good quality, it come with the fog lamp covers and their mounts also it primed. As for the price i bought it 65$, in my mind it worth replacing not repairing the old one. I'll take off all the inner fenders washed all the mud and deal with all rust and corrosion.
