Exactly. That is a warning label addressing the issue of running a screw-on chuck in reverse.

Mine is a D1-5 direct mount and has the same indication on all three screws.
 
Maybe it's a centering mark to easily locate the top of the chuck between the 1st and 2nd jaws?
 
I'm leaning for the sign to mean do not run it in reverse with a threaded spindle mount.

That's interesting. I have three Rohm chucks with D1-5 back plates. None of them has that marking on them. I have seen a very similar marking on another chuck that was a screw-on chuck. Can't remember the brand, but I'm thinking it was an older Cushman or Skinner chuck.

Are those bolts by chance left hand thread ?
