There is plenty of meat left. I think they are much safer now that they have a true flat bottom. Where as before they would not lay flat which I think was and is causing the problems with these types of plates blowing up.
If your putting the kind of force to break these plates removing a bearing from a shaft you have more issues and shouldn t be using the press in the first place with no clue what your doing!. If the setup is sound I see no concern for it s intended purpose.
