I learned something that will stick with me over the weekend. I made 2 arbors for an old Craftsman dual shaft motor that will br my new buffer. The 1/2-20 threads that I made on the first one came out spectacular. I was very pleased how smooth and perfect the fit was.
Here it is. (The larger one)
The second one came out rough and several of the cuts I expected only little shavings to come off, but I was getting large chips instead. I finally got the nut to thread on and it will work well enough to hold a buffing wheel.
It wasn't untill I was almost done when I figured my mistakes. The 1st mistake I made was not freshening up my threading tool. The 2nd and bigger mistake I made was bumping the tailstock into rhe part and pushing it back into the collet.
Just wanted to share what I learned.
