Toolbit material question

If you practice with keystock or mild steel of any kind, dress your wheel (assuming you're using 'stone' wheels) regularly, or they will load up and cut terribly. With HSS you really only need to dress them to maintain their shape.

Found this one for $18 shipped. Fair deal?

Fair price, but not great. Best place to find these is at garage sales, or junk box lots.

Ceramic bels on a beltsander work better than a grinder.
No question about it (as long as the belt grinder has a large enough wheel or a flat platen). But, I suspect that most folks just getting their toes wet have little more than a bench grinder - and nothing with which to true the wheel.

i have both belt sander (2) and grinder. in a past life ; i had installed over 2000 recoil pads on rifles and shotguns; without a "jig"

it all comes down to what you are trying to do.

"momax" = cleveland Mo-Max = M-42

cobalt is also most likely M-42
I don't believe mo-max is m42, mo-max is m2, and super mo-max is m-42, from what I believe..
and mo-max Cobalt is probably m42 as well.

Trying to find my chart on mo-max, and how much of each metal in it.
