we need a " show us your mistakes" machining thread

Here's a good one I'll admit to.
Built this bell housing for a small diesel to power my saw mill.

welded up the mating plate to bolt onto it. Centered it up in the four jaw to face it and cut a shoulder to centre it in the bell.

Was using a 24 inch dial calliper to measure it. Everything looked good. Go to bolt it on and the shoulder is way too small. Hum must have read the calliper wrong. Welded in the shoulder mount it in the lathe face and turn it back down, looking good. LOOSE AGAIN.
Was reading the wrong scale for the inside jaws. Second reweld and machining went better.
