My solution two years later has been to just leave the tie down strap on there holding the legs in place. Not pretty but it works, one of these days I'll come up with a more permanent solution.
I used to work with a fellow that had the philosophy of "measure with a micrometer, mark it with welder's chalk, and cut it with an axe." He never had a tight fit, I think he just built oversized and shimmed the corners.
