*new to me* bench drill press. Help me learn about it?

Nice machine Rick.
I’m on the hunt for something like that.
Envious!

My son came by this morning and laughed when he saw it because he has a buddy at work who really wanted it but couldn't decide when to call or if it was something he could resurrect. :)
this thing has not been run much, it's obvious. How it could be around for 80 years with so little rust is kind of unbelievable.

While bearings were less standardized in those days, they were also simpler. You can probably find some equivalent bearings at any industrial bearing supplier. There are several online bearing companies that have reasonable prices on US and Japanese bearings. Modern sealed bearings are probably your best option.

The nice feature of these old drill presses is the very long quill travel. The modern drill presses often have less than 3 inches of travel while yours has 5 or 6.

The top pulley bearings have a long extended inner race. I have never seen any like that. I'll look into that. These feel good, the problem seems in the quill. i took the chuck off the taper (press is supposed to have a threaded retaining collar to pull on and off the taper) but haven't gotten the bearings out of the quill. The two oil spots seem to not have been recognized by any humans in many, many years. Fortunately I don't think they knew where the power switch was either.
photo showed the bearing cartridge that is above the spindle pulley.

Given the machine doesn't appear to have been heavy used, the bearings might just be dirty, maybe try cleaning and re lubricating them.

If these folks are still in business, they're the people that can help you with WT bearings:

Here's a post from a few years ago that might be helpful:

I ordered bearings which are 5/8" id and 35mm od that have the correct 11mm height. It doesn't seem as mysterious as some have made it sound. there is a high likelihood that I'm missing something. I'll find out in a few days. :)

I can't read the name plate but it looks like a Walker Turner. That is an odd color for a vintage machine. Is it really green or is it the fluorescent lighting.
It was green the original color looks really blue-gray color.
