FreeCad, can I set the default directory for my user files? Linux

That isn't in FreeCad. That is from the Plasma desktop. Right click (wrong click for us lefties) on the launcher icon, be it desktop or menu, and select properties. I would assume Gnome is similar. Can't speak for Cinnamon or XFce.
 
For what it is worth, the changes to FreeCAD were volatile. I'm back to the same problem after a reboot, no matter what approach I took. Kind of lame. However, making strides learning the software package, so all is not lost.

For some reason, FreeCad gets stuck in certain paths. It does not remember where you were the next time you use it.
