This is the one I found in one of the older boxes . Clamp slot is .190

That's the one!! The blade is .185 wide - that's the one that fits!

Got your pm . I will send it up to Calgary and 10 to 1 I'll find that arm also . It was complete before things got shuffled around .

How did the OP make out ? So I did find the arm and rod in another box . I'm getting better at finding things these days . A week vs a year ! PM sent .

The one I just restored had a few rusty patches on it. Don't be too aggressive about removing metal from the base. A good deal of your accuracy is in the lapped surface of the base, and how perpendicular it is to the mast. I used a pencil eraser with 1 micron grit to remove the deepest rust patch very locally, so it becomes a non-contact surface. the rest of the rust stains came away with WD40 and a regular pink eraser with no abrasive at all. It prints very well on the surface plate, and the former rust areas show no contact.

Whilst waiting for the marvel mystery oil to arrive I have been putting on more penetrating oil and letting it sit. Last night, I was able to use a small clamp to gently squeeze off the scribe clamp! I noticed some movement with the lower arm, so, used a longer clamp and gently squeezed that off too! Next is cleaning an assembly. Thank you all for the help!

Soaked the base and other bits in evaporust overnight and everything cleaned up well. The base was standing upright in the evaporust, and submerged just about to the 1" mark, and there is now a black stain on the mast in that area (see pic). Any idea what happened? It wouldn't come off with acetone.

That will have to come off with elbow grease and steel wool. Next time you use rust converter, you will find it comes off easily while still wet, straight out of the bath. Once it sets, it stains. Stainless or silvery steel gets real black from chromium conversion.

I just picked ups small tool lot this morning. It has a 12” Lufkin vernier height gage that is frozen in place. I will be trying the above suggestions.

PVC/PVA should be resistant to distillates with 2 grams per liter of urinal cake dissolved in it with a squirt of antioxidant. What's all that? It's the mystery behind the oil!
