Closing this thread out.
I learned an awful lot, mostly why machine tools are made of massive monolithic castings.
But also I got to experiment with electronics, learn how to design and layout my projects, and I’m satisfied that I actually made the thing I set out to do as witnessed by the chips I cleared out while taking it apart.
I have some good parts and a much better idea of what to do with them next. Will be listing some of it here so if anyone has a CNC project keep an eye out.
