I Fought the Bear (and I Won!)

A bear did that to the door of your car!!! Wow!!

Well, on the third night, the bear succeeded in breaching the container. He broke out both back corners of the lid at the hinges and was able to reach in and drag some trash out. The mess was minimal and right around the can because he couldn't pull out a whole bag.

I still consider this a win. He beat the container, not the fortifications. Now WM can bring me a new one. I will again request a bear-resistant containter. She laughed the last time I asked, perhaps not this time.

The design will undergo upgrades.

A town next to mine you can't leave your garage cans out until the day of pick up. Also they are transitioning to cans are bear proof.

We have grizzlies. And yes they cross roads and walk around town. Most don't want anything to do with you. Of course it's the ones that aren't afraid or protecting there food or young that you should be very afraid of.

Have you talked to your wildlife agency about setting up a trap? This bear is going to be a big problem as it continues to get human food rewards. A fed bear is a dead bear.

BTW for those who love grizzlies and wolves our Fish Wildlife and Parks have been offering animals to other states. So far none have responded, so talk to your government officials and we can help out.

I thought a fed bear is a FAT bear. Don't feed the bears.

Bears that are getting human supplied food have a greatly accelerated expiration date .

Agreed, don't feed the bears.

Had a young sow grizz spend several months next to and on my place. When the grizz specialist would come check on her (she was collared), She would always move away from human movement. Never had any trouble with her even though I had livestock including a few pigs.

The problem is the animals have high motivation and lots of free time.

Looks like you need one of those lockable construction site tool boxes......
