I have a stuck arbor.

Do you not have a strap wrench?

I'm deathly afeared of springs, and ball bearings flying out to never be found again....

I do, but have not tried it.

You'll need to clean it and oil it anyway, right? Is there an Enco Or Gamet badge on it?

There are no name markings I can see. So???

I read over at PM that the set screw over the brand badge might lock the arbor.

I have no branding badge. I have removed any cap screw that I felt possible to be involved but nothing looked like it locked anything, and there was no movement with them out. A 5/8 HSS blank fit in the arbor slot, leveraging it, and persuading with encouragement from a hammer made no progress. Even one round or heat on the arbor flange was unsuccessful.

What method(s) have you been trying to hold & unscrew?

My criterion is the same way. I just use it with the chewed up straight 3/4” arbor it has. Wanted to change to r8 but can’t disassembly. Doesn’t really matter so it’s low on my list. It’d be different if I couldn’t use it as is for sure.

Not an issue . I sold Mike the head not knowing if the shank was easily removed . I guess it was a little more involved . A little bit of horse trading and I have an identical B/F head with an R8 shank .
