Old Bench Milling Machine

Really glad you found your "Little Critter" at a great price. That machine just has that look of solid quality about it. From your avatar I'm guessing you are a Harley guy. Mike

I sure wish I had a nice Harley like e.g. in the avatar. I have a few other bikes though. A 1200 CC Kawasaki hyper tourer, a 1-cylinder 400 CC Yamaha and a vintage Monark 6 day's bike (ISDT 125 CC). They are all fun bikes for different types of driving.

Nice scooters. Never thought it mattered much what you rode. The important thing is to get your knee's In the breeze. I started out in 1966 on a 46 knuckle head. Boy, the time sure does fly. That little mill should serve you well. Mike

I can't take the look and feeling of the sausage-skin handle and made a replacement of Delrin plastic.

Micke,

What a great find- congratulations!
As you said, all those cutters and collets are worth your investment.
It is great to see old equipment being given a new life.

Also, I like your quick fix to the slipping plastic "collet/key drive", obvious when you said/showed it, but my mind had not made that leap yet......simple, elegant and quick!

One caution, that mill looks very top heavy on that tall stand, be sure to bolt everything down, I'd hate for it (or you!) to be damaged; play safe!

I really appreciate you sharing so many photos/videos, I know it takes some effort.

thanks,
brino

Here is a pic that shows how incredible nice these machines can be.

I'm negotiating the price with seller...

What color do you guys think this is? Candy apple? I am thinking of painting a small mill this color. I was looking for a different color for this mill and this looks cool yet still manly :))

Not sure what colour that is, but I've always thought the cadillac burgundy would be a cool colour to paint machines.

Here's a pic that shows the colour well.

If you can find a store that has the shade of red they painted Chev pickups in the '50s, that might suit you just fine.

I think I'll use a color that is as close as possible to the original. But in case of red I would use Ruby Red, RAL 3003.

The pipe for cutting fluid was cracked so I installed a new one. The test is done with water and washer summer-fluid so I didn't want to spray the vise. The right cutting fluid hasn't come yet.
