Rescuing an abandoned Diesel 12 valve in Europe

Today i continue working on this car, i change the alternator regulator and installed it to the engine. Then i installed the rest of prats i took of only left the cooling system disconnected, fired it up back it in my driveway and flush the cooling system using my pressure washer. I also remove the driver's side fender, headlight and fender liner. Then i spent 2 hours with the pressure washer and degreaser to get the front end clean od any dirt or grime. I also change the passenger tire to mach the other side. Drove it up and down my street seams to drive fine only the cooling fans never com on and i bleed the air of the cooling system and the alternator is still not working.

Today i spent the entire day solving the charging issue of this car. I got up early before 5AM to take off the alternator, and took ti with me at work. After work i took it to a place that repairs them by their diagnosis the stator is burn thru. After few phone calls we found a replacement stator but it's 70$ and no guarantee. So i visited couple of car desmentalist and found a Bosch replacement and bought it 45$. Got home and installed it, it work, now the A/C works at low rpm but windscreen wipers seem to have mind of their own, i'll be looking for shorts and i need to check the rain sensor, Lots of work no visible change.

Today i took apart the rear brakes, they need to be completely changed and refurbished. The handbrake shoes have plenty of friction material left so they may stay but for the rest i have and will have to buy all new components and i plan to treat and protect the backing plates because they get rusty quickly.

It looks like nothing has been done but i've sent 4-5 hours with various wire brushes cleaning off all the suffice rust from the brake shield, rear subframe, roker seals. After the brushing i apply antirost acid to kill the rust.

Today i did a bit more work, clean off all the left rust and apply zinc primer, i got couple of cans that may have been a mistake because of the overspray. I had to get out of the inspection pit so no pictures from under but i also clean off and painted the new brake discs to protect them from rusting straight away.

The pictures look like you painted the disc surface, if not you can ignore this. The paint will contaminate and possibly ruin the new pads, so if you painted the working surfaces I would remove that before installation. Take care.

The entire rear subframe, parts of the exhaust, brake disc dust shields and brake calipers got a coat of zinc. I plan of applying one more coat of protective paint them maybe chipgard. The idea is to stop any rust and protect it for couple more decades. I apply a thin coat of that zinc paint on the rotors to keep them looking new for longer, i'll wipe off any over spray of the braking surface before installing them. The reason i only took picture of the discs is all the fumes come down in the inspection pit i was in, so i had to get out not to suffocate.

Last few days i've been very busy but i spent some time applying coat after coat of primer and paint to protect the rear subframe, backing plates and every piece of rust i cloud find. Now is ready to get the brakes replaced, also need to order one more handbrake cable.

Last few days, i've been working whenever i have spare time, I put the new rear brakes on. It was a lot of work to get the new central long hand brake cable in, i had to take apart the entire centre console, i did lots of cleaning of hardware but now the brakes should work well. I also changed the fuel filter, this is always a difficult task on any diesel, but thankfully peugeot put a blender and a hand pump to prime the new filter. And just today i took out the instrument cluster, i've notice there is no ABS light coming on with the ignition and when i brake hard i feel the abs working. After testing all the light bulbs, i've found couple missing and more than 15 burnout bulbs, i only had couple new on hand so tomorrow i'll have to buy more. i'm surprised why would some one take out the ABS light and the system is working. I also mounted some used tires that are in much better shape than the ones that it come with.

Today i had the day off work so i spent a good part of my day working on this car. Now its at the stage it needs to be prep for full paint job in and out. That means taking everything from the interior out. So one by one i took everything out and disassemble all the door mechanisms. All the parts that i took, take lots of space, and they will need to be cleaned before installing them, only the dash and front carpet had to stay so it can be driven. I found a rusty spot under the rear seat, after vacuuming the seat back and floor are rusted thru, this will need a repair but after looking on the net it's a common rust spot and this isn't bad compared to others. I'll give it another wash inbetween the doors.
