Sticky Threads

Parifin wax melted into the threads and the nut run into place. The parifin dosent hold a great deal, just enough to keep the nut from moving.

How about Permatex black gasket "goo". It wont affect tolerances & could hold & be removable/renewable. Of course, I'm assuming it's still available.
 
For small screws a bit of dental floss often works well. Just stick an inch or so into the hole, thread the screw in, then trim the end used to hold the floss while starting the screw. For larger threads, fishline may be needed to provide enough bulk.
