2014 POTD Thread Archive

Looking through this thread it is evident everyone is much more skilled than I! But here is some things I did:

Had to cut some knurled rod, so I made these soft jaws out of some UHMW polyethylene strips, I screws in the magnets that keep them in place. Also nice because when I'm done with them they can stick onto the side of the bandsaw so they don't get lost.

Here is the dial I made afterwards. The shaft it mounts to was a weird shape that I couldn't machine, so I 3D printed an insert and pressed it in. Didn't take a pic of that though.

love the soft jaws for the saw. I think I may copy them.

I'm really impressed to see people building their own power tools. Does the cold saw get messy with the coolant or it is all contained pretty well?

I like the Jeep too.

I gotta say,I can spend hours looking at all these great projects! I have been trying to remember to take pictures of things but most of mine are simple things. The best I did recently was a crankshaft adapter for a motor swap in a Simplicity garden tractor. Made it out of 6061 and got it right with no motor vibrations. Friend swapped in a 18hp twin cyl that replaced a one lung 10hp kohler. Was in a hurry so never thought to snap a picture.

I made a tool post locknut.

Thanks! I particularly like the how to part and the fast motion to get the idea but not have to sit through a long process.

Thanks. The coolant is mostly contained, however, I'm going to put a little mud flap at the back to catch some of the splash that gets beyond the catch pan.

Nice!
How did you do the blade cover?

The blade cover is quite unique! It's a plow disc. I cut it into two halves and welded them together to make the cover.
