2014 POTD Thread Archive

This post is not really worthy of this thread, I'm just posting this in hopes it will save someone else the aggravation I went through, I picked up a treadmill for a project, it was in my way today so I decided to take the motor out of it and get it out of my way, everything on the net said left hand thread for the flywheel/pulley , tried everything I could think of to remove it, I was staring to fear I'd damage something so I started cutting, in the end it was a taper, I didn't find one thing on the net suggesting it might be tapered.

Thanks for the tip, but if I cut this belt up I risk getting beaten about the head with a frying pan, I thought I got a deal at $15 for a motor but my wife was horrified I destroyed the treadmill, I had to promise to keep the belt just in case it will be good for the next treadmill that I had to promise I'd continue looking for......! Oh ya, and the three hours yesterday to remove that dam pulley, it's not looking like the deal it started out to be, LOL...!

Few things I been working on. First is a radius turner, then solid works, and last some eazycam.

Tell your wife that walking/running on a treadmill can cause severe cases of Gluteus plumbeus because of the harmonic decombobulation of the adipose tissue due to the influence of motor magnetic fields: better to use common dirt paths

Finally got around to making a better holder for my phone so can can make the videos that I make. A simple car phone holder from a dollar store for about $2, some brass and an imitation Noga magnetic indicator holder.

Looking through this thread it is evident everyone is much more skilled than I! But here is some things I did:

Had to cut some knurled rod, so I made these soft jaws out of some UHMW polyethylene strips, I screws in the magnets that keep them in place. Also nice because when I'm done with them they can stick onto the side of the bandsaw so they don't get lost.

Here is the dial I made afterwards. The shaft it mounts to was a weird shape that I couldn't machine, so I 3D printed an insert and pressed it in. Didn't take a pic of that though.

The solidworks is just one of the tutorials. The eazycam is actually part of a Disney costume to make the mouths move in the characters.

I can say that for 2d parts eazycam is way easier to use. That SW part could have been done in EC so much faster and easier. At least at my level
