I ended up pulling the plugs and clearing the lines in the casting. I ended up drilling and tapping the plug to pull them out. So now ill make new plugs.

Nice, gentlemen. I have to do this eventually, but have to get emotionally ready to remove the carriage.

I did get the tailstock/headstock aligned to within a taper of .001 over 14”. Seemed adequate, less than a tenth per inch.

I suppose I'll have to take the carriage off one of these days, nice to know you guys have been there first.

I am picking up a 12 5/8" faceplate for the Takisawa this week. I was lucky to find this on Craigslist.

Got the apron opened up. It looked pretty good inside. You could see some wear on some of the gears, but nothing was broken. I simply cleaned it up as best I could. There wasn't a filter on the oil inlet pipe for the one shot. I had ordered this from McMaster-Carr before finding out from Ray what original filter was like. I tested it and it works good. I also opened the headstock and it looks good. Just going to give it a oil change.

It looks great now, Zamboni 2354. Man, I want to do this. But...then I have no lathe for probably 4 times as long as I think it would take.

Just ordered these to see if they will spiff up the machine a little. Hopefully they fit.
