Use a punch to remove the pin. This will allow you to remove the shaft...but don't unless you have to!
Plastic bearing block with hub still installed...gear removed.
This pin connects the gear to the hub. It goes in a hole that's drilled in it..

This is probably what you will have. If you have the older style like is pictured in most books. It will be 3/8's for most of the length starting inside the bronze bearing to the end of the shaft. This is towards the handle. This shaft didn't work for mine. I had to make one on the lathe.
