What job did you do today in your shop?

Oh, it didn’t start out the way it is now:

Pretty much a wreck and I still had to pay $3400 for it! Yeouch!

I had to pay more than I would have liked because older 8 wheelers are hard to find. 6 wheelers are a dime a dozen, but an 8 wheel I/C (industrial/Commercial) isn’t as common. Easy to find them new (30g+), not so much used.

Bent body tub (happens when guys trailer them and throw a ratchet strap across the middle), worn out drivetrain, beat up, missing pieces, everything loose or totally clapped out. I had to rebuild just about everything and then started building it up to the way I wanted

They’re actually not too bad to rebuild, at least cost wise. The engine is a Kohler lawn tractor engine and most of the mechanicals (bearings, seals, chains, etc) are just common agricultural parts. The only thing thats really proprietary is the transmission, tires and body shell…

Axtually, at one point, I had a vf750f Interceptor engine in it:

D54BFC79-49D9-49F0-BD0E-52BCB74FFDBC.jpeg Went pretty good! But I ended up taking it back out and putting the Kohler back in.

The Vf was fast, but it guzzled gas at a horrendous rate and I needed this thing to run for days when I was still using it for hunting.

The VF engine was also why I had to extend the nose and install a grill. The VF was liquid cooled and I needed to mount a radiator for it….

A buddy bought a 6 wheeled one back in the 80's with the engine gone. Put a Sacks 2 stroke snowmobile engine in it. Fast but LOWD and a gas guzzler too.
My old buddy Dr Burrwell, now past, wore 2 totally out and was on his 3rd when he died.

Oh man, I owned a 750 Interceptor for a few years, that was a fun bike. It also seems like a lot of engine for that machine.

Made some brackets to mount track encoders for my front/backyard rover. I ordered some nylock nuts but they haven't arrived yet. I think my belts are slightly long but shorter ones will have to wait. Once I'm happy with the belt tension I'll trim those studs. Pretty soon I'll hopefully get started learning how to bend and rivet sheet metal. Bought this brake a while back but haven't even got it mounted yet. I'm really looking forward to that.

This front/backyard rover thing sounds interesting. Is it set up with artillery, flamethrowers, or just swinging blades? Is the dog okay? Just fascinating.

Not real sure about the offensive weapons. Might be hard explaining to the neighbors about killing the family dog. "Oh it's OK sir the problem was in this line of code". Should be fine going forward.
