Entropic, I totally agree. I was shocked at how worn my screw is. And yet, my nut is pretty damned good. I’m guessing someone changed the nut. Maybe even tried to reuse the little ball Oiler and that’s why the ball oiled was screwed up. FWIW... I had ordered new ball Oiler from McMaster. When changing it, I decided to think about the acme screw I also ordered. And thats why I’m now changing the screw out.

Clausing 5903 Crossfeed Screw repair.

I ordered a new Acme 5/8”-10 LH threaded rod from Roton Products. Finally getting around to making it work on my 5903 lathe. The threaded screw has a dowel pin which attaches it to the Crossfeed dial. The biggest issue is that there is a raised part of the Acme thread which is a bearing surface...

True that! I discovered the wonders of UV when I laid about 3' of MIG bead without wearing a shirt. Couldn't understand why when laying in bed that night that my chest was on fire.

Better titled "what I didn't quite get done in my shop yesterday, but definitely will finish today".

I ordered a HF tool cart--great reviews, yada yada. The reviews suggested ordering a pair of 6" rotating wheel casters to replace the 2 fixed wheels. Great idea, as I don't like trying to maneuver my 48" tool chest with only two rotating wheels.

The cart came a couple weeks ago, but fires, heat, work, etc. kept me from starting until yesterday. Figured on an hour. Well 6 hours in, I still hadn't started assembly. The 6" casters I bought are 6", but the ones that came on the tool cart are 6 1/2". No problem, I have tools. I'll make spacers. I did. It just took me a really long time.

They are pretty, though. :laughing:

Finishing my coffee and heading out to actually assemble the tool cart.

Grab pics while you are out there of your pretty spacers. There is nothing like machine eye candy to make the day better.
 
In the area of yard/property work, trying to pressure wash the concrete driveway.
One of the things that woo'd me when we first looked at this place was the large expansive driveway and aprons.
I'm rue'ing that this weekend.
I've single stick'd it a couple of times. Figured I come up with a better idea this time around.
Instead of going with one of the ~15"DIA attachments, I figured I'd save a few bucks and get this instead.

$36 off Amazon, comes with two straight and one 90° sections. 5" DIA wheels.
Pretty decent quality for the money. It's also advertised as a vehicle under carriage cleaner.

First problem was that it left 'rows' between the heads. Second, some chips got into the outer nozzle.
That was really no big deal, 10 minutes and I had the debris cleaned out and it was back to functioning.

Then comes the "I'm gonna re-engineer this and make it better, part of the story"
I laid down some 2x6's and rolled it over them. The extra 1-1/2" provided full coverage. Cool.
Grabbed some salvaged push mower wheels and got to work modifying them.
(This is why we have all this iron in our shops - right?)

The 5" OEM wheels sitting on 2x6's would be 2.5+1.5=4 x 2 = 8" (right?)
So the mower wheels are 8" DIA.

Didn't quite work out. Worked well with the 5" wheels running on 2x6's but not with full 8" wheels. (Twilight zone?)
Time for a review. :concerned: :confused 3:
