Still deciding if I want to paint the centers black. I want to, what do you guys think?

At the moment Will that shiny finish looks absolutely spot on and I wouldnt paint it myself.
Maybe in a year or so I might change my mind

I have to agree with Phil - I wouldn't, the shiny looks great!
 
made another LED work light! Two more to go, although I'm now waiting on some LEDs to arrive to finish them off.

It may be hard to tell from the picture. But how is the insert held in place other than the cap screw? Is there a shallow pocket or a shoulder to register it?

there is a shoulder at the back it will also hold another insert so you just turn it around and cut inside radius, same shoulder will hold both

Happy to say I made my second real repair using my lathe. Been wanting to put larger tires on my sons garden tractor and we made bushings for under the fenders, like a body lift on a pick up truck. After doing that we decided to make the steering wheel hight taller. Seeing the shaft is hollow we cut another soild shaft that was bad and added 4 inches to the length. I went last night to make some nice alum bushings for it and my stock wasnt wide enough, so it will be next week before the stock for them gets here.

very nice. i assume thats your son running the lathe? im very happy to see hes wearing saftey glasses. good job dad.
