I have always thought a screw is used where the mating hike has no thread but a bolt requires the mating hike or not to have a thread.The definition that I saw said that a bolt is used with a nut while a screw is not. Nowever, this belies the fact that certain engine fasteners are refereed to as head bolts.
So then what is a bolt threaded into a tapped hole and locked in place with a jam nut calledA fastener can be either a cap screw or a bolt depending on how ts used. Put it in a through hole with a nut on the end then it is a bolt. Thread it into a tapped hole and it becomes a capscrew.
Yeah, either way you get screwed.Hex heads and socket head cap screws along with a few others . They're all bolts .
