Got a couple pieces from an estate and made a handle for something with one piece. Now people ask what kind of wood it is. The handle was turned on a lathe and just finished with beeswax. Any ideas machinists?

Hi just a guess but i would tend to say it looks like Teak to me. My sister has a table and it looks the same as that.

It looks like mahogany to me. The color is right and some mahogany has open grain like that.

mahogany - if it was padulk - it would be bright burnt orange and patinas to a dark read - looks like African Mahogany if I had to guess just by the picture Most mahogany is soft -you can cut it with a hard fingernail

Goncalo Alves, Spanish cedar. How does it compare to RedOak? Softer, lighter?

I have turned some Padauk (In fact, just the other day) and it produces vibrant red dust and chips. If it did the same for you it's probably Padauk. It does look like Mahogany, but Mahogany dust is brown and it's not nice to work with.

I'm going wit Mahogany on this one folks. I have some looks just like that.
