K&T universal mill

Those are great machines, and as said above, assuredly worth more in parts than you would pay by a good margin. Hope it all works out, and yes we all need a bigger shop. Cheers, Mike

I would be careful trying to run the machine as it looks like it has sat for a longtime. I had to fix one of those once because water from the coolant leaked into the knee and rusted the inside of the knee. The top of the knee loos rusty, but good. The price is right for all the tooling and those heads. I have always like Milwaukee and K&T mills. I would say to buy it, Heck offer less. But I would not run it until you clean it up and change the oil. Do some simple things, bring a flashlight, Try not to move the the saddle and table too as you will drag crap under the ways and score it up. You may ask a lot of questions. The column also has a hyd pump in it and I would also be careful running it with old oil in it. Here is a new model http://vintagemachinery.org/pubs/2098/25996.pdf

Is that one of the models that don't like to run backwards? If so, there is a procedure for checking direction as even jogging the wrong way can screw stuff up. I don't have a K and T so my knowledge is pretty low. Keith Rucker and others have videos worth watching about K and T #2. Dave

$650 bucks are you kidding me. Man there are never deals like that around me. Make sure you get the drive gear for the vertical head.

So I definitely won’t run the mill till it’s all cleaned up and the reason for selling is because the owner is closing up shop after 35 years in business do you health issues so I’m going to see if there’s anything else up for sale while I’m there

In many of those mills, they cast the rotation with an arrow on the drive pulley in the back of the machine behind the door. Some had a small plate riveted to the pulley too. Ask the owner to come over and show you how to run it after you get it ready. I'm sure he would love to help you. That's a BIG 10 - 4 on what NC Jeeper said about the drive gear. I see your in Maryland. Just incase you didn't know, there is a great Museum in Easton a 1/2 hour south of you with many old machines. If I lived out their I would become a member. I taught a class there. It has a huge building with antique machines all run off belts in the ceiling. https://tuckahoesteam.org/Collections/MachineShop/machinegallery.html https://tuckahoesteam.org/collectionspages/collectionsmachine.html

NCjeeper I usually don’t see deals like this in my area normally they want a lot more money for such a machine !!! And i might have another one coming up I’ll know more this weekend on this Monarch lathe series 61 20x54 I found close to me also the only reason the owner is selling is because he found one with a taper attachment and it’s a little bigger if I get the opportunity to look at that I’ll post some pictures and I’ll probably sell one of my Monarchs because I don’t need 3.
