Must Have Mill Machine Accessories For A Beginner?

Do you guys use Grizzly.com? I've been using them for a lot of the items I need and I just wanted to know what your thoughts are on them. BTW I have a Smithy 1220LTD been playing with it for about 6 months. d3b7d465452b355dba2c2b53dcd89e4c.jpg

5C collet blocks are very handy, both square and hex shaped. Not essential, but useful and a good time saver.

I generally use several sources and Grizzly is one of them. They are useful if they sell a version of a machine that you have. Then you can find spare parts there.

I order from the following vendors. The list is not all-inclusive and not in any particular order:

http://www.shars.com/

http://www.littlemachineshop.com/

http://www.grizzly.com/

http://www.cdcotools.com/index.php

I also order quite a bit from discount machine shop on ebay. This is Shars and frequently the prices are lower.

Grizzly is now selling some of the more expensive lathe chucks like PBA and Bison undercutting everyone else on price. I used to shop New England Brass and Tool for chucks and back plates but Grizzly has them beat lately. Their shipping is probably the lowest in the industry as well.

Deals can be had at Enco when you can stack their 20% off sales on top of items already on sale and sometimes even bundle with free shipping. I just did that on 3 power feeds for my new mill and saved over $500. Enco pretty much owns the lowest price on Kurt vises, again stack a 20% off code on top of their normal sales price, and factor in the Kurt vise ships free directly from Kurt and the price is about $430 vs the $399 for made in Asia vices.

Here's one you rarely see mentioned on the forum, http://latheinserts.com/HOT-DEALS_c92.htm this guy is a former Kennametal sales guy. He now sources some of the best yet lowest cost tooling and inserts available. A lot of machine shops who are looking for quality but also value buy from him he knows his stuff.

Here's another of my secret suppliers http://www.usshoptools.com/

Great information, thanks for the input guys. I'm always looking for a good deal on quality. Also, I want to install a 3 axis DRO on my 1220 but I'm not sure if I should go with stand alone readouts or a set that connects to my laptop. I have a flat screen TV mounted above my lathe and the laptop connects to it. Though it might be cool to see my readings on it? If I'm in the wrong section of the forum let me know and I'll be happy to move my post. Thanks

You might also want to consider this option:

Using these instructions: http://www.yuriystoys.com/
With these components
Arduino UNO R3 board with DIP ATmega328P
Sparkfun 500 1/4W Resistor Kit
Wall Adapter Power Supply - 9V DC 650mA
KEDSUM® Arduino Wireless Bluetooth Transceiver Module Slave 4Pin Serial + DuPont Cable
Arduino Proto Shield R3
Alldaymall A88X 7'' inch Quad Core Google Android 4.4 KitKat Tablet
Adafruit USB Mini-B Breakout Boards - rather than soldering the wires from the scales directly to the board, I much prefer to install mini-usb jacks for connecting them.
iGaging 12" Magnetic Remote Digital Readout
iGaging 24" Magnetic Remote Digital Readout
iGaging 24" Magnetic Remote Digital Readout
For the enclosure: I got a 3D printer arriving on the 25th and will be printing this enclosure box: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:585501

I will have some fun building my own DRO for the G0704. :)

More stuff coming in...

This is all for the DRO
