Need Help: Refinishing a Mitutoyo Micrometer Case

maybe that works for excessive use of it. But I have been using denatured alcohol since I was a kid and I'm still kicking. Is the goal to make it so we live to 125? I'm ok with living a normal life, and not being tied down by irrational regs. I don't swim in it. I do spray shellac quite often.
I would agree. I have been exposed to all kinds of stuff in the shop as we all have. I'm not personally too worried. I was just trying to see another viewpoint. Imagine if you went to work everyday and disinfected your hands with isopropanol 30 times a day for 40 years. Oh wait..that's what nurses do...

For use in the shop, the worst ethanol will do is dry out (defat) Your skin. Wood alcohol isn't much trouble unless you drink it or boil and inhale it. I don't get it, no need to pull it off the shelves.

Methanol can be absorbed through the skin and harmful effects have been reported by this route of entry. Effects are similar to those described in “inhalation.”

Again, I'm not worried at my exposure level but if you work in industry or have daily exposure...

I agree that Skin designation is important. Uptake efficiency is highly diminished for light, polar chems like methanol. You have to be pickled in it. When was the last time you got drunk by soaking your fingertip in a shot glass of vodka? I'm usually safety Nancy or whatever the tough guys call me, but not for a 1% methanol/99% ethanol solution (denatured alcohol).
