What Did You Buy Today?

The local alloy supplier's owner sold out and retired (after 60 years of running it). The place promptly lost their contracts with Ratheon, Honeywell, etc. Probably because it was purchased by an "investment firm" aka one dude that I'm not sure really knows what he's doing. They're just planning on stocking (and I quote) "steel and stainless". This place carried all kinds of weird stuff like sizeable berillium copper and like 20" 8620 bar stock. As well as 1144, 12L14, D2, and other stuff. No one is buying that stuff so I told them I'd keep coming back until i had all of it. I have my eye on 12' of 1144 2", and a couple 4' pieces of 3" D2. But i grabbed these yesterday

42" of 10" diameter 7075, and about 6.5' of ground and polished 4140. Not a bad snag for a couple hundred!

I have an older Mashstroy lathe and I read somewhere that Warco and Mashsttoy is from the same company or something, I cant remember, all I know is it is a pretty good machine. Mine does have a bit of wear on the bed,but I work with it. Enjoy your brand new toy and as can be expected......

Bought a ship load of 12' 6" x 6"s from the neighbor . Next project involves building a wall or two . Ive had 4 different retaining walls around the rancher basement patio over the years and was never satisfied with any of them . Dug the entire hill out with the Bota 2 years ago and had 20 yards of top soil delivered last year . Once the walls are up , I get to fill it back in for the 5th time !

I wanted to do some KG GunKote this weekend without bothering the wife for the oven, so I made a run for Habitat for Humanity. All of this is for the shop! Paint curing oven, check. Pyrex tray for acids and plating, check. Boiler/hot plate in a handy size, check. Bread tin for the solvent tank, check. Then I found some fun stuff, someone did a nice job on this rifle rack, and I need a better way to store stocks/barrels/rifles while working on them, so I got that. Found some early run Mexican made Nicholson files. I know they're supposed to be caca, but the medium mill bastard is the file I use most, and until now I only had one. And I sprinkled some metallic conduit couplers on top for added flavor (for adding lots of light to my blast cabinet). I was out the door for $50, so I can't complain. Not bad for one stop, considering I had a list going.

Garage sale stuff today. There were several garage sales today. Picked these things up at4 different ones. Grand total out lay was $65. Very stoked on the Jacobs chuck and the Starrett carpenters compass. The compressor runs nice and quiet. I will change the oil.
