Mr Waters....nice job on the mill repair. I, too, have a 602 and am looking for some comparisons to other ExCellOs. I just finished yesterday, replacing motor bearings, motor sheave sliding key, spindle lower sheave bearing, gimbol bearing and drive belt. The new belt made the biggest reduction in noise.
Now for the questions...
What is your serial number? Is there a placard on your mill indicating what lube to use in your Hi/Lo gear box? What is the HP of the head? Which VSD belt are you using?
You talked about speed adjustment fork and stop nuts. On mine, the nuts are factory set and pinned in place with roll pins, thus no easy adjustment. My actual spindle speeds are quit a bit higher than the dial is indicating (at 100 RPM setting the spindle is running at 152 RPM and at 2700 RPM setting the spindle is running at 3440 RPM). How does this compare to yours? Did you notice any way to adjust the Spindle RPM Plate (52-15218) to bring the indicated RPM more in line with the actual RPM?
I have 3 manuals for the 602s and none of them match my mill exactly...there is always some discrepancy.
Info on my mill....2 HP 1800 (1710) RPM motor, SN 6026152 (best that I can determine built in 1975), XLO on the front of the mill, ATF for spindle drive gear box. I'm using a "103317 Reeves" drive belt that crossed over to a 1922V321.
I appreciate any info you can supply.
Chris
