2021 POTD Thread Archive

Finally finished the outer walls on the second story. The backhoe is living inside as of yesterday. Much like me it's getting old and tired, and has a hard time getting started in the morning.
Maybe it'll feel better after a good night's sleep in the warm indoors :)

PS - are the ladders the only access to the upstairs?

No, staircase is next in line. The present plan is a combination of wood and steel. I have some 5/4x5 1/2" cypress decking from the last spec house I built 20 yrs ago that I will be setting in a tread frame made from 1x1/8th angle with 2 - 3' sections of wood in each one, held in with 1/4" carriage bolts. Still working out the stringers and railings. Trying to use up everything I have on hand, so it may get a little funky. Mike

I finally decided that today would be the day that I would make the bolt / nut puzzle, or whatever it's called. So here it is. Nothing special but I have to say, it turned out better than expected and it was more rewarding than expected. I guess it doesn't take much to amuse me.:)

Any junk electric forklifts near you, make yourself an elevator, staircase are so old fasson also take lots of space and are hard for carrying staff up and down. Here is a photo of the net of what i'm thinking.

Looks like a Ford!
I had several back in the day
Last one was a 6500 w/Gannon 4 in 1 front bucket.
Fluid filled rears and full cab w/AC
Dug a lot of basements w/that rig!!
Great machine

The idea had definitely crossed mind, but I installed the large door in the side for moving big things in and out with the forklift, and while stairs do take up space, I like them architecturally, and the space underneath will be used for work bench, and storage. Mike

Yes, pretty much a Ford guy. It's a 1980, has 7000hrs on it, and it has moved a lot of ground. Has been pretty trouble free, never touched the engine, other than regular maintenance. Mike

Well the old girl was much happier starting this morning. A few pics of the plowing routine. Took just under two hrs including moving truck and trailer, and the "tasteful art photos ;)". Cheers, Mike

I don't envy your snow but I sure do miss blue skies in winter!

@FOMOGO

WoW! That's a bunch of driveway. The tractor (backhoe) is pretty much a necessity. Looking good.
