Is this a lot of food?

Exercise in the winter has limited choices. I was given an exercise bike and put it in front of the computer. Not great but better than just sitting here and I get two things done at once. It's 4°F now.

Ok, up and at 'em.

Lost exactly 0 pounds. Or thereabouts. It's an analog scale. I see nothing to get excited over.

May need to cut down on the butter? Taters? Tropical mix? We'll see.

This bites. I'm going to the Chinese buffet. I won't let a bit of fat retention stand in the way of my fun.

I may agree about the taters (bad) and butter (not so bad). The sugar I did consume - remember the quart of yogurt and coffee/s I consume then and now - didn't stop me from losing a vast amount of weight. I have to look at the nutrition info for the tropical mix. All I remember is 330 calories per bag. And I only ate those 2 bags last night. Don't know if anything is added. But it's all fruit. No mms or even chocolate. No nuts or seeds. I can't see that being much of a problem.

Some sugar isn't a problem. Cheese, bread, pasta, starch is. Perhaps 4 taters is overdoing it. Maybe I' ll limit to 2 medium spuds, less burger, and more veggies. Got to fimd my steemer basket.

The taters ARE bad, but the butter isn't only "not so bad", but is okay for you.

The yogurt is good for you (provided there isn't any added sugar). The coffee is also okay, with the same proviso. Add cream to your coffee to your heart's content.

You will probably find that the tropical mix has a ton of added sugar in the mix and 660 calories from mostly sugar is a recipe for disaster.

Any sugar is almost always bad. But like alcohol, consuming it in moderation is usually well tolerated by the body.

Cheese, bread, pasta, starch is (bad).
Three of these are bad. The cheese is not.

Perhaps 4 taters is overdoing it.
Yes, it is. Try shooting for zero taters. Substitute some butternut squash for your taters. Cut the squash in half and stick it in the microwave for about 5 to 6 minutes on high. Add lots of butter to it and enjoy!

Try limiting yourself to zero spuds and increasing the burger with the veggies. I have always preferred my vegetables steamed soft (especially broccoli) and served with tons of butter.

As a type 2 diabetic for the past 25 years. Around 10 (I think) years ago I resorted to the ketogenic diet twice (now on my 3rd session) and ultra low calorie diet once.
In all three cases I had to come off ALL medications, my blood sugars dropped to normal and I lost weight, from 145Kg to 90Kg today.
Whilst on the keto diets I felt better all round and the diabetes was fully under control.
First time was for 8 months, second time was 10 months. In both instances christmas broke the diet and it was difficult re starting.
Sugar in all its forms is the enemy and food producers stick it in everything.
The unadulterated bull dust perpetrated by so called specialists on the dangers of fat and salt have been the main driving force for the the obesity epidemic in all western nations today.
I have no sugar in anything, all fruits are low sugar low carb, no root veg, heaps of greens, butter and cream in my 4 shots of coffee, all meats poultry fish and shellfish, keep all the natural fat on all the meats.
This time round my blood sugars have dropped from 14.1 (christmas indulgences) down to 7.9 with no change in medication in 7 days.
I am now back in ketosis where my body is burning fat for energy.
I love sweet things and this it the most difficult part, finding other sources for sugar is a hard process, monk fruit is fine, ethritol is fine but in small amounts.
According to all the weight calculators I am still around 10kg overweight but that will slowly reduce if I can stay in ketosis.
There is no need to go hungry on a keto diet and I would recommend you give it a try.

I'll deal with you two tomorrow! LOL

Hey if it works for.you great. But at least SLK001 seems to be coming at this as an Atkins evangelist. I've been kicked off of forums, ok 1, years ago that was Atkins centric. As they couldn't believe I was losing weight at the rate I was. It didn't coincide w/what they were taught and believed. I'm being "sloppy" now, seeing what I can get away with (and I've had so few baked taters in my life, even microwaved, they're spectacular). But just a few months ago I was doing the yog/eggs/coffees/burgers/ ... pickles, and I was losing weight too fast. Then my car blew up, nearly literally, and had no trans for a while. Can't transport yogurt home on a bus in August. So I dropped the diet. Started looking into making my own yogurt, but am not there yet.

As a result of this conversation, I'm seriously considering doing vegetarianism again. Ok maybe pescatarianism for now. Meat, poultry, even fish (I had loads at the buffet today) is actually sickening. I'm convinced the human body is better without it. It's not that I don't enjoy it. But it just sinks to your gut and sits there.

W/o the hamburger or whatever I would have substituted down the line, I may be eating a lot more potatoes. God I love them.

Yeah a little scary. I'll need to find a more natural substitute. I can't understand how people like schnitzel so sweet, particularly in the US. I obviously enjoy some sugar. But man stuff gets disgusting!

I don't know anything about the Atkins diet. I've never even read what it consists of. I said that I had never followed any of the "fad" diets. To me, eating 4 ounces of this, with 4 ounces of that is just stupid. Hardly anyone has the will power to follow instructions like that for the rest of their lives, so they end up in an endless cycle of diet yo-yo.

But just a few months ago I was doing the yog/eggs/coffees/burgers/ ... pickles, and I was losing weight too fast.
Nothing in that list is bad - eat all you want. Throw some bacon in there too. I too, lost weight at an alarming rate eating the stuff on your list - and, I was never hungry.

The human body cannot survive on a strictly vegetarian diet without serious supplementation. There are B vitamins that are only obtained from animal products that the body needs. This is why I call all the vegan advocates idiots to their faces. Animal exploitation at its finest. That's what a carnivore does.

Meat, poultry, even fish (I had loads at the buffet today) is actually sickening. I'm convinced the human body is better without it.
Unconvince yourself. The human body evolved eating lots and lots of meat. We were meat eaters long before we were gatherers.

It's not that I don't enjoy it. But it just sinks to your gut and sits there.
I'll bet that your blood magnesium level is very low. Think about supplimenting your diet with some Magnesium Citrate.

...potatoes. God I love them.
So do I.

I obviously enjoy some sugar. But man stuff gets disgusting!
Yeah, you have to check the labels on these foods. About 45% of the total calories on this lot comes from the sugar. I wasn't kidding when I said that sugar was addictive. Stop your intake of it and you will experience withdrawal symptoms.

...finding other sources for sugar is a hard process...
Try Aldi's Stevia extract. I find that it is a very good sugar sub. It does contain maltodextrin, which is supposedly a high glycemic additive, so monitor you CGM after using some to see if you get a spike in your blood sugar.
